Anthony Gatewood

Youth Liaison Officer The Youth Liaison Officer Program is a special initiative of the Grand Ledge Police Department to provide intensive enforcement and positive intervention in the under 21 years of age, repeat offender portion of our community. Officer Anthony Gatewood is the current Youth Liaison Officer or "YLO". Officer Gatewood's duties include those of a regular patrol officer and the following:

I. The Role of the YLO

  1. Defined in response to the needs of the community.
  2. To provide consistent, intensive enforcement of the law to repeat offenders.
  3. To provide positive intervention when possible in order to break the cycle of juvenile delinquency.
II. Duties of the YLO
  1. Serve as a part time School Resource Officer for the Grand Ledge Alternative High School.
  2. Provide law related teaching and counselling to students.
  3. Maintains an effective team relationship with the Eaton County Probation and State Parole Agencies.
  4. Establishes a dialogue between students and law enforcement.
III. YLO Community Programs
  1. MADD Victim Awareness Program.
  2. Parent education.
  3. Faculty and Staff development.
VI. YLO Programs for Juveniles
  1. Youth Outreach Program.
  2. Student Art Project.
  3. Long-term violence prevention.
V. YLO Contributions to the Alternative Education School
  1. Participates in a full range of school activities.
  2. Spends time with students before, during and after school.
  3. Works to gain students' trust.
